2024 Update 18/08/2024

Hi Blue Lake 24 Hour Challenge Lovers,

Six weeks until we see you all at Blue Lake where you will be pushing yourselves on various distances around the lake for our tenth year anniversary!

We currently have over 550 entries so we are getting close to our cut off.  Just a reminder that children can register on the day via old school pen and paper.

The event starts at 8am on 28th September and finishes at 9am on 29h September.

Lot's of newbies this year - so thought it would be worth reminding people this is a grassroots event.  We have a good time, and run a slick operation (that fact depends on who you ask), but be ready for the fun aspect, the banter and general nonsense.  No poles!

Just a few things –

Tent Sites

The tent area will be available from 2pm on the Friday afternoon for set up, absolutely no setting up before then. No vehicles will be able to access this area. Park in the car park and walk your stuff in. Just a reminder that the tent village sites are 3m x 4m and no vehicles to be parked on your tent site. Please remember the ground is hard and rocky, so bring anything you need to hold your tent down if it is windy.

All the tent sites are sold out but there are always people that change their mind about coming closer to the event so ask on our facebook page if you are still desperate for a site.

Like last year, the majority of parking will be over on the DOC paddock across the road, plan for this if you are using your vehicle as an add station on the Saturday.  I am sure as it quiets down overnight you will be able to move your car to our regular parking spot.

H&S

This is a fully self-supported event, right through to bringing your own water etc. No, we don’t have somewhere to charge your cell phone :)

All runners heading out after 6pm this year to have some form of reflective strip, light or high vis on the back of their running gear for safety reasons (for the road section) so please make sure you have this sorted.

After party / Rugby

The afterparty will be held on the Friday night as per usual. So come down, have a social drink & relax before the event.

Somebody who cares about rugby told us there is a game on Saturday night, so we will have a screen set up for those who would like to watch it!

Food and Beverages

Black Label BBQ (BBQ burgers etc), The Italians (Woodfired Pizza) and FTP (Vegan delights) will be there on Friday night and Saturday for your dining needs. Please support them! We are also currently working on sourcing a coffee cart (an update will be on our facebook page, but if you know anybody interested that has a Rotorua licence please drop us a message).

Other than that bring any food that you may need over the event.

Merch

Green Monkey has arranged merch for us this year and will be bringing it along for collection on Saturday.  Please jump on their website and order what you want.  https://www.greenmonkeyvelo.com/collections/blue-lake-24hr-challenge-2024-collection

We will also have Mark from Tailwind there with his goodies!

Thank you

A huge thank you to Squadrun, His and Hers Events, Dirt Bags, ZeroTwenty2, Davy Engravers and Independant Traffic Control who have donated services or goods this year towards the event and our fundraising efforts.

Thank you to those of you who also volunteered at Tarawera Ultra as a fundraiser towards the event, and to those who have given donations to save us from raffling off Chris's services (Electrical ones!  Get your head out of the gutter!).

Feel free to drop us a donation through the website, or bring along some cash on the day.

Watch out for the upcoming facebook live, and if you have any questions, please check the website (https://www.bluelake24hr.com/), or our facebook group.

See you all in September,

Kurt, Chris, Sarah, Sean, Ash and Matt
