Hi Blue Lake 24 Hour Challenge Lovers
We are looking forward to seeing you all this weekend!
The event starts at 8am on 28th September and finishes at 9am on 29th September.
Parking
We are using our usual spot for parking and will have some parking volunteers out to manage this. Please follow their directions so they don't get grumpy. 4WD vehicles will be parked separately to 2WDs due to the terrain. Once the parking in the usual spot is full, we will be using the DOC parking area across the road from the HQ reserve, same as last year. Please follow signage and park here if requested. We will have traffic lights here to assist with crossing, but please keep your wits about you when you cross the road, watch out for cars and manage your children.
Plan for potentially being in the DOC carpark if you are using your vehicle as an aid station on the Saturday. I am sure as it quiets down overnight you will be able to move your car to our regular parking spot.
Staggered Arrival
If you are not needing to be there for the 8am start (i.e. doing some general laps) it would be great if you could turn up a little later so we don’t get ‘kick off’ congestion on the trail and parking bottlenecks.
Tent Sites
The tent area will be available from 2pm on the Friday afternoon for set up, absolutely no setting up before then. No vehicles will be able to access this area. Park in the car park and walk your stuff in. Just a reminder that the tent village sites are 3m x 4m and no vehicles to be parked on your tent site. Please remember the ground is hard and rocky, so bring anything you need to hold your tent down if it is windy.
It will be first in first served for those with booked sites, so if you want to be next to your mates, arrive with them!
H&S
Just a reminder this is a fully self-supported event, right through to bringing your own water etc. No, we don’t have somewhere to charge your cell phone :)
We ask that all runners heading out after 6pm have some form of reflective strip, light or high vis on the back of their running gear for safety reasons (for the road section) so please make sure you have this sorted.
DON”T RUN ON THE ROAD!!!! It is 80 km/hr through this area and although we say it every year people still know better and do it anyway. Please don’t be the one to get our event cancelled.
After party / Rugby
The afterparty will be held on the Friday night as per usual. So come down, have a social drink & relax before the event.
Somebody who cares about rugby told us there is a game on Saturday night, so we will have a screen set up for those who would like to watch it!
Food and Beverages
Black Label BBQ (BBQ burgers etc), The Italians (Woodfired Pizza) and FTP (Vegan delights) will be there on Friday night and Saturday for your dining needs. Coffee Chic will be there on Saturday. Please support them! Hours are on our facebook group page.
Other than that bring any food that you may need over the event.
Dogs
No dogs.
Weather
Yay, at the moment the weather is looking good, but my awesome forecaster app does change every 5 minutes. Please make sure you have what you need to keep yourself warm and dry, and your tents are pegged down.
Thank you
A huge thank you to Squadrun, His and Hers Events, Dirt Bags, ZeroTwenty2, Davy Engravers and Independent Traffic Control who have donated services or goods this year towards the event and our fundraising efforts.
